Vincent et Marie Tricot ‘MC’

Vincent et Marie Tricot ‘MC’ – a carbonically macerated, delightfully affable Pinot Noir that never fails to put teeth in our smiles. This is a conversational wine; dignified in its grace and humility and simply yearning to reinforce kinship. Despite its light-hearted joviality, this is brimming with nuance. A cloud-parting, foot-tapping elixir that once opened, seems to decelerate time and sharpen the day’s colours. It is matured mainly in fibre-glass with indigenous yeasts before a brief transferance to old oak barrels. Initially gyrating from the glass are delicious candied strawberry aromas; bright and enticing, followed by wild raspberry and red cherry. A zealous yet balanced acidity tantalises, as subtle hints of earth and warming spices precede a lingering finish. Precisely structured, invitingly light and wondrously saline.

Vincent, Anjou-born, discovered “le monde du vin naturel” and his love for it while helping Jo Cotton with a Beaujolais harvest . Having globe-trotted, doing stints in various wineries, he, his wife and two daughters moved to an Auvergne whistle-stop called Orcet. Wielding vast stores of passion and knowledge, they were determined to produce low-intervention wines. Moreover, Vincent was aware of the concentration of pre-phylloxera vines that dominated this region, a rare, opportunisitic blessing. Having been lucky enough to assume control of a site that had been working organically since 1971, they purchased 4.5ha of vines. Since 2011, they have been making wines without the addition of sulphites, focusing on terroir. Evidently, this powerhouse duo, married in both matrimony and philosophy, are aware of the mighty faculties possessed by Auvergne soils.

Vincent et Marie Tricot ‘MC’ –  A delicate quaffer with a vivacious mineral structure; that clay limestone and volcanic rock imbuing it with energy. A tirelessly drinkable triumph that will undoubtedly bring one closer to summer. Drop it on ice and watch it sing and dance.
