Le Boncie ‘Le Trame’

Le Boncie ‘Le Trame’ – translating as ‘the intrigue’, this bold yet balanced epitome of Tuscany is certainly a curiosity. In spite of a heady complexity on both nose and palette, ‘Le Trame’ distinguishes itself by way of plush and structured textural tones. Comprised mainly of Sangiovese, with some Fogliatonda for blending purposes, this is a patient wine that unveils itself slowly. Initially, vibrant red berries mingle with sultrier black fruits, as notes of balsamic wash over vegetal and earthy tones. Wild mountain herbs unfurl across a backdrop of gamey and savoury components as fine tannins begin to reveal themselves. A touch of lingering salinity concludes what is a terrifically terroir-driven journey.

Podere Le Boncie is situated in the whistlestop of San Felice, just outside Castelnuovo Berardenga. Hastily, it has established itself as one of the most innovative traditionalist estates in the Chianti Classico zone. Giovanna Morganti owns a humble three hectares of dense plantings, comprised largely of Sangiovese. Having taken after her legendary oenologist father, she completed similar studies before participating in a renewal project that focused on replanting around 300 Tuscan varietals. Having received a small olive grove from her father, Giovanna added a vineyard which consisted of her favourite plantings from this renewal project. Her work on the vineyard abides by biodynamic movement rules; this art of healing being a strict factor in her philosophy. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermentation occurs in open-topped wooden tanks and the elevage is patient. Lastly, the ageing process occurs in mid-size barrels and implements that same patience.

Le Boncie ‘Le Trame’ – a truly special expression of this region and its tapestrial viticultural history.
