Judith Beck Blaufrankisch

Judith Beck Blaufrankisch offers a chewy, plush texture with generous dark cherry, cassis, and plum flavors, complemented by herbs and a touch of minerality. It’s a highly versatile wine that pairs well with nearly any type of food and cuisine.

Judith Beck handpicks all the fruit, sorting the grapes both in the vineyard and at the winery before de-stemming. Fermentation happens spontaneously in stainless steel tanks. The young wine is racked off its skins and transferred to neutral acacia wood casks for two months, where it completes its malolactic fermentation. It then moves to 4-6 year old barriques for 8-10 months of aging. Judith Beck Blaufrankisch undergoes two phases of aging in wood to achieve the round, complex, and vivid style she desires.

Judith Beck’s winery operates as a family business. Since 1976, the area under vine has grown from 5 to 15 hectares. Most of the vineyards lie in the Wagram of the Parndorfer Plate, the region’s most important site. Since 2007, Judith has crafted wines following biodynamic principles. She practices a viticultural art of healing, using nature’s remedial qualities to strengthen the plants’ natural resistance. They apply self-made cattle manure and cultivate grass between the rows to encourage humus formation. Judith also uses herbal teas and biodynamic field sprays to enhance the physiological ripeness of the grapes. Ultimately, she seeks a balance between authentic individualism and a healthy terroir, a goal she achieves with grace and humility.
