Okro’s Wines Saperavi

Okro’s Wines Saperavi Budeshuri has notes of Amarena cherry, rosebud, plum, and a hint of smoke on the nose. The palate is rich, juicy and velvety, with a finish that highlights a hint of salinity. It has a beautiful tannic structure and is surprisingly light in alcohol. This Saperavi comes from vines that have never been touched by chemicals, planted around the village of Tibaani at 400 meters altitude, in the famous wine region of Kakheti, in eastern Georgia.

This wine spends 15 days on skins with no stems and just over a year in qvevri. All John Okro’s wines are 100% natural – he doesn’t add any  sulphur or any other chemicals. Saperavi Budeshuri is a type of Saperavi with white flesh and more aromatic intensity.

Like many other producers in Georgia, the focus of winemaking lies in the passion for ancient winemaking rituals. Today, John Okro is one of the most respected natural winemakers in Kakheti, where he concentrates on traditional long skin contact amber wines and increasingly a small range of delicious Pet Nats.
