Bachey-Legros ‘Clos des Hates’ Santenay Vielles Vignes

Bachey-Legros ‘Clos des Hates’ is produced from a 1.5 hectare vineyard in the heart of Santenay village. The wine features intense Pinot Noir characteristics with red and black berry notes, cherry flavors, and subtle spice elements, all structured within a fresh, juicy profile and excellent balance.

Christiane Bachey-Legros has managed the estate since 1993 and now works alongside her sons Lénaïc and Samuel. Their 16-hectare domain spans Santenay, Maranges, and Chassagne-Montrachet regions, and has remained in family hands since Christiane’s great-great-grandparents’ time.

This vineyard stands out as one of the Southern Côte de Beaune’s oldest, with vines averaging 55 years of age—one vine reaching 80 years produces especially concentrated Santenay 1er Cru from its small, deep black grapes.

The estate comprises five main 1.5-hectare plots, with their Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot White plot being the largest and most prestigious at 2 hectares.

To maintain vineyard health and produce elegant, flavorful wines such as Bachey-Legros ‘Clos des Hates’, the family practices quality viticulture with planned disease management. Christiane monitors grape ripeness to determine harvest timing, while her sons oversee a two-stage grape sorting process—first in the vineyard, then using a vibrating table. Vinification occurs in stainless steel vats, and the wines mature in oak barrels within their vaulted cellars.
