Cantine Rallo ‘Bummaru’ Nerello Mascalese

Cantine Rallo ‘Bummaru’ Nerello Mascalese is a lighter example of the classic Sicilian grape variety. Ripe, lively, and energetic, this wine is deliciously refreshing. Bummaru leans towards a fresher, approachable style. Slightly peppery, with and bursting with prominent cherry, a refreshing acidity makes for a quaffable Sicilian red. Grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a short maceration on the skins, co-fermenting with indigenous yeasts. No filtration, no fining and only 2mg/L sulphur added prior to bottling

This wine is the result of a collaboration between Cantine Rallo and champion of natural wines, Les Caves de Pyrène. Grapes for Cantine Rallo ‘Bummaru’ Nerello Mascalese are sourced from a biodynamically managed vineyard in Etna, mainly comprising of old vine Nerello Mascalese. Vineyards are at altitude around 570m on volcanic soils.

Cantine Rallo has been making wine since 1890, originally focusing on Marsala production. Since the late 1990s, under the stewardship of the Vesco family, the winery has embraced systainable viticulture with a focus on authentic, terroir-driven wines. ‘Bummaru’ is a testament to their commitment to quality, blending tradition with innovation to create a Sicilian red that is both expressive and immensely drinkable. Perfect wine to serve slightly chilled on a sunny day.
