Beaujolais Nouveau Night is fast approaching. On Thurs Nov 21st, wine lovers around France will take to the streets in a series of festivals to welcome the first wine of 2019.
Beaujolais Nouveau is rather like gin – people who won’t touch it usually have a bad story to tell. At its worst, Beaujolais Nouveau is an underage concoction of unripe grapes beefed up with sugar and sulphur. But just as the international cocktail renaissance has redeemed gin for many, so too is Paris’ thriving natural wine scene the saviour of Beaujolais Nouveau – at its best, a charming adolescent of a wine, a lively libation whose simplicity is part of its allure.
Beaujolais Nouveau Night has become one of the highlights on the Parisian wine calendar with many of the city’s natural wine bars getting involved and pouring nouveaux wines from a variety of top organic/biodynamic Beaujolais producers. So this year we’ve decided to bring a little Parisian Beaujolais magic to Cork so you can experience it for yourself.
On Thurs 21st November from 6 pm- 9.30pm we’ll be taking over the Apple Market on Barrack Street (home of Neighbourfood) to welcome the first wines of 2019 with a Parisian-style street festival. We’ll have flights of Beaujolais Nouveau from our favourite Beaujolais producers to try – Foillard, Dufaitre, Chanudet, Desvignes and Domaine de la Plaigne, accompanied in true Parisian style by platters of charcuterie & cheese, and we will be teaming up with Ali’s Kitchen to bring you something hot and delicious to keep you warm. It’s a street festival, so expect it to be chilly – dress warm!
We are delighted to be able to have the use of this wonderful venue – The Apple Market, an 18th century warehouse hidden away off Barrack Street that is full of charm and character – unknown to many Corkonians and abandoned for many years until Jack and Simone of Rocketman brought it back to life last year and it now is home to the city’s NeighbourFood market.
