Patrick Bouju ‘Cailloux’

Patrick Bouju ‘Cailloux’ is made in Auvergne, France by Patrick Bouju and Justine Loiseau of Domaine La Bohème. A red made with a blend of Pinot Noir and some Gamay d’Auvergne. The wine is lightly fragrant, herbaceous, with a gentle spice, richness, and minerality on the palate. A very elegant red, subsequently perfect for serving alongside food.

Grown organically from old, pre-phylloxera vines on volcanic soils, all harvesting is carried out by hand. Patrick Bouju ‘Cailloux’ underwent aging in old wooden barrels and amphora, with natural vinification practices and zero sulfur added. The wine undergoes semi-carbonic maceration, giving juicy concentration. By harvesting ripe, healthy grapes, the wine can be bottled without additives. The bottled wine is, as a result, free, expressive, and alive.

Domaine La Bohème, located in Saint-Georges-sur-Allier, was founded by the winemakers in 2004 from a deep love for nature and an aversion to sulfites. The Domaine has garnered a cult following for producing wines that are organically farmed and naturally vinified. Bouju’s wines, including ‘J’, are highly sought after for their unique expression and commitment to authenticity. The combination of his expertise in the vineyard and cellar results in wines that are as distinctive as they are delicious.
