A Taste of EMILIA-ROMAGNA – Friday 25th June.
This is our last week of virtual wine travels – alas! But it’s been an absolute blast touring up and down Italy, travelling the length and breadth of France, crisscrossing Spain, veering north to Germany and south as far as Morocco. It kept us sane during extremely challenging times – although the kitchen team might feel differently having mammoth ‘Masterchef’-like challenges thrown at them every week – but they pulled it off!
For our last week, I wanted to bring you a region, wine and winemaker that are very dear to me – that perhaps best represent what L’Atitude is all about. The region: Emilia-Romagna where I spent a number of years developing a profound love of good food and wine; the wine: Trebbiolo – my eureka wine – the one that made me understand what natural wine was all about; the winemaker: Elena Pantaleoni – who we had the pleasure of hosting in L’Atitude for our CineCafé screening of ‘Natural Resistance’. Her visit was brief, but the memory of that evening will stay with us forever – her incredible warmth, wisdom and generosity left an indelible impression on us – it was one of those encounters capable of shaping life paths. Anyone lucky enough to meet Elena will know what I mean.
So we are really excited to share this joyful wine with you. It’s wild, earthy and rustic, yet refined and elegant at the same time. A perfect example of what this part of Italy has to offer. Plums, blackberries and myrtle give the faintest perception of sweetness on the palate – but it has complexity in spades with a light spicing, savoury fruit, brought together by a deliciously refreshing, brilliant acidity. It’s a wine that woos you from the first sip!
And we’re going to raid Emilia-Romagna’s generous larder to find a selection of delicious tastes to do this wine justice and go out with a bang! #Jointhejourney one last time!
