CINECAFE: THE FAREWELL         Wednesday Jan 31st 7pm

Here’s the perfect way to spend a cold January evening. CineCafé returns on Wednesday 31st January, showing a highly entertaining, yet equally poignant movie in which food plays a central role. 

’The Farewell’ is a heartwarming comedy about a headstrong Chinese-American woman named Billi who returns to China when her beloved grandmother, Nat Nai, is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The family decides to keep grandma in the dark about her illness and stages an impromptu wedding to see grandma one last time. Billi finds herself completely conflicted about the family’s decision not to tell Nai Nai, in a metaphorical battle between Western and Eastern values. 

And as the movie unfolds the countdown to the wedding can be measured in meals. “Eat More!’ is how Nai Nai expresses her love for Billi.
