Our next CineCafe is on Wednesday 8th November.
This gentle comedy drama is not exactly a food movie, but definitely one of our favourite films – it’s sensitive, funny and full of nostalgia with the most beautiful scenes of the Bay of Naples. We’re big Italophiles in L’Atitude, so are very excited to have an excuse to dig out our Italian recipes and wines to interpret the movie through taste.
This is the sort of movie you can watch over and over again and never get tired of. But if you haven’t seen this film before here’s a brief synopsis: an unlikely friendship develops between a world famous poet and a postman in this deceptively simple story. Pablo Neruda, the famous Chilean poet, is exiled to a small island for political reasons. On the island, the unemployed son of a poor fisherman is hired as an extra postman due to the huge increase in mail that this causes. Il Postino is to hand-deliver the celebrity’s mail to him. Though poorly educated, the postman learns to love poetry and eventually befriends Neruda. Struggling to grow and express himself more fully, he suddenly falls in love and needs Neruda’s help and guidance more than ever.
As usual we’ll be interpreting the movie through taste and with our very own chef from Naples, there’ll be a distinctly Neopolitan flavour!
Tickets €32pp for movie and matching tastes. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
